Cagayan de Oro City — January 30, 2026 — Lourdes College welcomed visitors from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) who delivered an informative and timely lecture on Consumer Rights to students from the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and Information Technology (IT) programs.
The activity was conducted as part of the institution’s Student Development Programs under the Business Education, Accountancy, and Information Technology departments, aiming to deepen students’ awareness of consumer welfare, responsible citizenship, and ethical decision-making in both traditional and digital marketplaces.
During the session, the DTI speakers discussed essential concepts anchored on the Consumer Act of the Philippines (Republic Act 7394), highlighting the rights and responsibilities of consumers, proper consumer complaint procedures, and the government’s role in trade regulation and consumer protection. The lecture also emphasised practical considerations such as product safety, fair pricing, truthful advertising, and the value of informed consumer choices.
The students engaged in the discussion through questions and reflections on real-life consumer experiences, enriching the learning atmosphere and reinforcing the importance of consumer education across disciplines. For BSBA students, the lecture strengthened their understanding of ethical marketing and business accountability. For IT students, it provided relevant insights on consumer rights within e-commerce, online transactions, and digital services, a growing area of concern in today’s technology-driven economy.
Lourdes College expresses its sincere appreciation to the Department of Trade and Industry for sharing their expertise and for supporting the College’s commitment to developing graduates who are socially responsible, ethically grounded, and responsive to national development needs.
