As artificial intelligence continues to redefine how information is created and shared, BSBA students took an important step toward becoming more discerning and responsible digital citizens by attending the seminar “Understanding Fake News and Misinformation in the Age of AI.” The activity was held on January 7, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the Lourdes College AVR.

The seminar was facilitated by Car Nino Bondoc, MIT, Coordinator of the Lourdes College Information Technology Program, who guided students through the increasingly complex relationship between technology, information, and truth. His talk focused on how AI-driven platforms can unintentionally amplify misinformation, making it more persuasive, widespread, and difficult to detect.

What made the session particularly impactful was how the discussion connected technology to everyday life. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own online habits and what they read, share, and believe. Mr. Bondoc explained that misinformation today often appears polished and credible, powered by AI-generated texts, images, and videos that challenge traditional ways of verifying information.

The relevance of the topic was especially clear for BSBA students, whose future professions will require sound judgment, ethical leadership, and informed decision-making. The seminar emphasized that fake news not only distorts public discourse but can also affect brand reputation, consumer confidence, and organizational integrity. In a business environment shaped by data and digital communication, the ability to separate fact from falsehood becomes a vital professional skill.

The interactive exchange between the speaker and students highlighted a shared realization: in the age of AI, responsibility does not rest on technology alone, but on individuals who choose how to use and respond to information. Students raised thoughtful questions and shared insights, reflecting a growing awareness of their role in shaping a more informed and accountable digital community.

The seminar concluded with students leaving not just with new knowledge but with a renewed sense of responsibility to think critically, verify information, and act ethically in both their academic and future professional lives. This initiative further reflects Lourdes College’s commitment to holistic education, where technological literacy, ethical formation, and social awareness go hand in hand.

In a world where information is abundant and truth is often contested, experiences like this remind students that critical thinking remains one of the most powerful tools they can carry forward.
